The Great California ShakeOut
Posted 9/18/19

On October 17, 2019, the SRVUSD will be participating in the Great California ShakeOut. Again this year, District students, staff and personnel at all District facilities will join millions of other Californians in this statewide event promoting earthquake preparedness.

The Great California ShakeOut is an annual opportunity to practice how to be safer during big earthquakes: “Drop, Cover and Hold On.” In the SRVUSD, participation includes communication exercises, shelter in place, and evacuation drills. In addition, the District uses this opportunity to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies.

SRVUSD takes emergency preparedness seriously. Throughout the school year, the schools of the SRVUSD hold planned safety drills. Every elementary and middle school will have 10 planned safety drills. Every high school will have 4 planned drills. These drills include a combination of fire/evacuation, active shooter and earthquake drills.

Everyone in the community is encouraged to participate in the Shakeout. You could be anywhere when an earthquake strikes. Whether at home, at work, at school, or even on vacation, it is important to know what to do.
