Principal's Message

Date:  11/1/21

Hello Montevideo Families,

The Fall season is well underway and we are very busy here in Mustang country!  We are gaining traction as students have a few months of school under their belts and teachers are introducing richer and more complex material to engage students academically.  Even the rainy days couldn’t deter our progress and we all gave thanks for the much needed rain.  You can read more of what is happening at school both inside and outside of the classroom below.

Halloween: Thank you to everyone who helped make our Halloween parade and celebrations amazing-- it was truly a fun and exciting day for our students, families and staff. Special thanks to our PTA who put together a fun carnival event. I loved seeing all the kids just being kids with all the laughter, excitement and energy at the booths and games.

Mustang of the Month:--- we celebrated our September “cooperation” recipients on October 22nd with lunch with the principal and assistant principal. The students loved the pizza, choosing their own plush mustang and talking about all the ways they showed cooperation. Our October recipients will be announced soon.

Classroom Visits: I have been visiting all of our classrooms and have seen students and teachers engaging in fun, educational and innovative activities. We will be visiting all classrooms over the next few weeks. We will read books to students and talk to students about the “A” in CARE--- “accountability.”

Student Senate: We have selected some 4th and 5th grade students to be a part of the Student Senate. We had our first meeting on October 27th. Students wishing to run for an office position will give a speech on November 10th. Any 5th grade student who wishes to be a part of a leadership committee will have the opportunity to do so very soon. Information and details are forthcoming.

Social Emotional Health: Based on feedback from staff and our community, our professional development has focused on student social emotional health and the self-regulation of emotions. We have been working with students on helping them identify emotions and problem solving with how to regulate responses to emotions.

November: With only 13 school days in November, hopefully you all have the opportunity for some quality time with loved ones. It’s hard to believe that the holidays are upon us. As a reminder, there is no school on 11/11, 11/12, and 11/22--11/26.

Thank you: I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the students and families in our amazing community. I welcome feedback, ideas and suggestions. I am thankful for your honesty and your commitment to doing what is best for our students. We also welcome your input, ideas, and volunteerism in both the Montevideo PTA and Montevideo Education Foundation.  Meetings for this month are this Thursday, November 4 and we invite you to join us!

In Partnership,
